DVI-DVI-1-5M
A digital DVI video cable between a display and a computer or graphics card.
DVI-D carries only a digital signal (no analog pins) -- confirm both connected devices are DVI-D (or HDMI via a passive DVI-D/HDMI adapter, since both carry the same TMDS signal) before assuming compatibility with a DVI-I/analog-only source.

How it works
Three differential pairs carry the picture data (TMDS), a fourth carries the clock -- physically the same principle as HDMI. There is no audio, CEC, or HPD wiring in a DVI-D cable at all; a separate DDC pair alone reads what the display can do.

From the published standard
DVI carries picture digitally using the same TMDS encoding HDMI later adopted, over differential pairs. Single-link is enough up to 1920x1200; dual-link adds extra pairs for higher resolutions.
