TOOL-PNT
Traces a single cable through a bundle or a wall and finds its other end.
A tone tracer works by injecting an audible signal at one end of a cable, then picking it up with an inductive probe at the other end or across an entire bundle -- this identifies which physical cable is carrying that signal without needing to visually follow its full run.
From the published standard
Installation tools differ fundamentally in what they answer: a tester confirms all eight wires are connected in the right order, a tone tracer injects a signal so the other end can be found in a bundle, and a fault locator measures the distance to a break in a buried cable. Choosing the wrong one means it will not answer the question being asked, however good it is.
