USB30-LAN
Adds a wired network port to a computer that has none, over USB. Useful for ultrabooks without an RJ45 socket.
USB-A carries just 4 pins: VBUS (+5V power), a D+/D- differential data pair, and GND -- the simplest USB pinout, with no reversibility and no Power Delivery negotiation lines.

From the published standard
The adapter puts a full Ethernet chip inside a small body outside the computer, so the system sees it as an ordinary network card through the USB port. USB 3.0's bandwidth is enough (and more) for real gigabit throughput; USB 2.0 caps real-world speed below 1000 Mbps even on a device labelled gigabit.
