HDMI-SPL-4
Takes one HDMI source and shows it on 4 screens at once.
HDMI Type-A carries 19 pins, not just the video signal: TMDS pairs for the picture itself, CEC (single-wire remote control across connected devices), DDC/+5V (the EDID handshake -- how the source learns which resolutions the display supports), and HPD (Hot Plug Detect -- how the source knows a display is connected at all).
Hover any port to see what it does and what connects to it.
From the published standard
A splitter takes one source and reproduces its signal on several outputs, so every display shows the same content. It is not a way to show different content on different screens: that needs two devices, or a matrix. In practice a splitter negotiates one common resolution with all the connected displays, so the whole group drops to what the weakest screen can accept.
