CVT-HDMI-SDI
Converts an HDMI source to SDI for long professional-video runs.
HDMI Type-A carries 19 pins: TMDS pairs for the video/audio signal itself, plus control lines -- CEC (single remote controlling multiple devices), DDC/+5V (the EDID handshake that lets the source learn the display's supported resolutions), and HPD (Hot Plug Detect, how the source knows a display is actually connected). BNC connectors come in two incompatible impedances: 50 ohm (RF/data standard) and 75 ohm (video/broadcast standard) -- mixing them causes real signal loss (about 5% per mismatch point) from impedance-mismatch reflection, a common mistake when a 50 ohm BNC cable ends up on a 75 ohm CCTV run.

From the published standard
SDI is the professional broadcast standard: it carries uncompressed video over a single coaxial BNC cable for well over 100 metres without repeating the signal -- far past HDMI's practical cable-length limit. The converter electrically rebuilds the signal between the two protocols, and it is directional -- an HDMI-to-SDI converter does not work in reverse.
